Snr Captain Tano’rath Cmdr, DES Defiant I.D.A.F. First Fleet Imperial Drakonian Space-Fleet “What, mucking around in a simulation for half a day counts as ‘enrichment’?” I remarked, looking through the pamphlet that Talorath had forwarded to me. “Surely there’s a mistake in here somewhere…” “I checked it up, it’s apparently correct,” Talorath replied, shrugging, “something to do with the push to learn more about our origins and history.” “Ah, yeah. I saw a bit of that going around. There’s a whole list of simulations that you can do, isn’t there?” I remarked as I tried to find the email in my overflowing inbox. “Since it counts to the quota, I’ll probably do the flight one.” “What, the powered one or the one before our wings shrank?” Talorath replied with an amused snort, “I think I’ll do the one about life after the Unification Wars. It’s always the bit that gets glossed over in the books.” “The one before our wings shrank. Powered flight is a pretty stale topic – it’s all
Camping in Comfort
“Really? Camping?” I remarked, rolling my eyes as I settled into my chair. “You know this is the first bit of leave we’ve both had in more than a year and you want to go and roll around in mud?”
“Well, it’s spring back home and you’re always on about finding time to smell the flowers, so I would like us to smell them.” Fiora retorted, her brightly lit office contrasting starkly with my dim quarters. The lights had been fried recently in an altercation with a few pirates, so all I had was my less than good table lamp.
I ended up snout-clawing. “No, that is a meta
Bigger and Better
I paused to mark some time off on the calendar that I had hanging on the wall of my quarters, using it as an excuse to get away from the computer in front of me. While most people just used the calendar on their comms units and computers, I liked to have a physical one to glance at and scribble on.
Doing this, however, didn’t distract me from the rut that I had gotten myself stuck in. The report sat open on my computer, the cursor blinking away as it had been for the past half hour and it seemed that the next hour would produce the same results or lack thereof.
On the upside, the calendar had been updated with my le

“Yeah, I suppose I could go and have a beer.” I remarked, reclining in my chair. It was good to be away from the ship for once.
Fiora, who had also taken leave, snorted as she threw a cushion at me. “It’s a festival to celebrate love and life and all you think about is beer. Typical!”
I was about to retort when I got slapped in the snout by the cushion. “Gah! Come on! I’ve been stuck in a metal deathbox for almost a year. Cut me some slack!”
“They told me this would happen if I chose someone from the Fleet.” She grumbled, half-heartedly throwing an
Communication
“What do you mean it’s my discretion? That’s not how it works!” I protested, glaring at Talorath.
Talorath himself shrugged. “It’s what the orders say, captain. You get to decide what we direction to explore in.”
“Right, well, do we have anything interesting around here?” I replied, scratching my head. High Command usually had a heading at least, but obviously not this time. Perhaps the minimum length of this ceasefire had blindsided them since it was longer than normal.
“No, it’s just empty space. Came the reply.
I growled in annoyance then just pointed in w
Lasting Impressions
Band camp. Things people talk about when they reminisce about their school days. They tell me about ‘that time at band camp’ and so on. This isn’t restricted to the younger bunch either. Longer serving men and officers talk about such experiences too.
While I would have liked to relate, I couldn’t since I never went for a band camp. In fact, I was never in a band and I hated camps. I was part of the shooting team and outside of the occasional team dinner, we never did anything special. However, I did help run one of those camps before.
It was one of those Community Engagement programs where we we
